Phone and Online Counseling also offered at this time.

Dementia Support

I also specialize in Dementia Support. I have experienced this disease both personally, as a caregiver, and professionally, as a Support and Education Coordinator at the Alzheimer Society of BC.

I use counselling as an effective tool to help family, friends, and the person with the condition come to terms with this traumatic and life-changing diagnosis.

If there’s been a diagnosis in your family, or you suspect there may be one coming, I’ll help you:

  • Understand what's happening
  • Plan ahead
  • Manage stress and conflict
  • Strategize to make life as normal as possible for all.

Please contact me to find out more about my Dementia Support services.

About Me

I’m a Masters level, Registered Clinical Counsellor with more than 10 years of experience supporting and counselling Adults and Couples.

I spent several years with Hospice and the Alzheimer Society which provided foundational training and experience in family dynamics, couple's issues, grief and loss, existential awareness, life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress management, long-term caregiving, coping with a diagnosis, and living with Dementia.

I work primarily with adults, seniors, and couples and have targeted training to include evidence-based approaches and techniques for a variety of challenges including trauma, neglect, anxiety, depression, anger, overwhelm, self-esteem, loneliness, communication, and reconciliation with self, others, and/or the past.

I’m also a trained marriage counsellor and offer these services:

  • Couple counselling - covers areas such as communication, attachment issues, breaking the argument cycle, repair after a fight.
  • Specialized counselling - for engaged couples, newlyweds, and those thinking about making a commitment.
  • Discernment counselling - for couples who may not be on the same page as far as whether to break up, work on the relationship, or do nothing (business as usual). Discernment offers the couple a chance to speak about issues in a safe, mediated space so they can decide how they want to move ahead (3 or 4 sessions).

Some of the methods we’ll use to help you reach your goals include Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Attachment-based, Internal Family Systems, Focusing (FOT), Brainspotting, and Somatic Awareness.

I offer a complimentary first session - online or by phone - to provide us a low pressure opportunity to see if we feel we can work together. Please contact me to book your complimentary session now.

If, after the complimentary session we agree to move ahead together, online booking is available for Online or In-office sessions.

* Please note that all sessions will be online should we be advised by Health Canada to do so.

FAQs

What happens in the complimentary first session?

During our first meeting I'll answer any questions you may have, go over confidentiality and the intake form, and then I'll ask you about what brings you to counselling at this time. The goal is for me to let you know what you can expect going forward, explain the counselling process, answer your questions, and set you at ease. By the end of our time together we’ll know if we’re a “good fit” – meaning we each feel we can work together. We may also have a plan for our next session or we may want to spend a bit more time determining that.

What can I expect from counselling?

You can expect to:

• gain clarity about the life you want for yourself
• increase your awareness of the factors contributing to your problem
• reconnect with existing skills/knowledge to help navigate adversity
• strengthen your ability to set clear, achievable goals for yourself
• feel more at ease about problems or goals that weigh heavily on your mind
• increase confidence in your ability to make difficult but important decisions
• improve communication with others and yourself
• feel supported, heard, and understood

What are the fees for counselling?

  • I offer 60 minute sessions at $143.00 and 90 minute sessions at $200.00 (no GST).
  • It is recommended that couples book 90 minutes sessions.
  • First time clients are asked to contact me directly via email or phone to book a complimentary online or phone session before booking regular services.
